Finally back in the Bay area!

I'll probably start updating with more studies and personal work, rather than constant portfolio updates. Here's a little somethin' to get started.

Beware

He gets super pissed if you get anywhere near his tree.

Er, insomnia strikes. Only explanation I have for you.

I did a few illustrations for a kickstarter recently. It's for a project by Scott Taylor, the editor of Black Gate Magazine. Brom and R.K. Post have signed off as contributors, so I'm definitely hoping he pulls it off. The illustrations were done at what can only be described as speed painting pace, but they came out fairly ok. Here they are, somewhat lo-res:

You can check out the kickstarter (and donate!) right over here.

Neuromancer, WIP

Started work on my entry for the CGHub Illustrated challenge. Neuromancer has long been my favorite sci-fi novel, yet I've never really illustrated any scenes from it. So I decided to take a little walk through Chiba City ;]

Edit: I handed this image off to Cliffhanger Productions to use as promo and intended style for their Shadowrun reboot. Check it out!

rharr - wip mode

Painted a bit further into this ugly bastard tonight. I've been experimenting with different techniques for bringing an illustration forward, and I think this marks the culmination of those endeavors. Next one will be the real test ;]

Bone Mask Mauler - WIP

About an hour and a half into this one. More often than not, I find myself tip-toeing into illustrations, so I wanted to kick the door down for once. I'll certainly render into a few areas and polish in general, but cranking up the headphones and punching it in the face repeatedly at breakneck pace was pretty fun ;]

MtG: WiP

Just getting this one off the ground.

This illustration is for a mock card representing a standard thief/spy archetype. I tried to convey Merfolk painting themselves up to infiltrate Elves, but I don't think it will read in this particular iteration. I'll probably give it another go with more emphasis on the ideation and thumbnail stages.

Art Evolution, Mock MTG

The entire Art Evolution entry post is up now over at The Art Order- featuring a whopping 126 entries! Pretty proud to say that mine is one of two Cyberpunk entries ;]

Here's a quick painting for a mock MTG card created by my friend Isaiah.

Compost Farm
Land / Rare
Tap: add 1 (colorless)
Tap, G: Exile a creature card from a graveyard. If that creature is black, draw a card.
Tap, B: Exile a creature card from a graveyard. If that creature is green, target player loses two life and you gain two life.

Lyssa

My entry for the "Art Evolution" challenge over at The Art Order blog.

The design doc stated, simply:

A young female human wizard with black hair who always wears white trimmed in gold.

The one caveat being that the image must be themed after any major RPG. I did a few thumbs in the D&D vein (couple examples below), but settled into a more suiting Cyberpunk/Shadowrun mode. I was a Blade Runner kid, after all. Character concept was put together over a lunch break and the final illustration was done over the course of two days. Good times!

Character updates

Currently in Mumbai for my wife's brother's wedding. Definitely an intoxicating, chaotic melting pot of a city. It's a concept artists wet dream, really- every corner is either Blade Runner, District 9, Fallout or Children of Men. Inspired a completely new project for me, which is nothing like any of those just listed, surprisingly :P

Put these up on my portfolio, might as well toss them up here too.
