GUITARWOLF
Finally got around to sorting my values proper and cleaning this guy up. I say "guy" because this is actually the standard player and his BEATMODE form, GUITARWOLF. ALL CAPS !
I haven't really explained too much about this project. It's called Beatmode and the quickest way to describe it a mashup of three things:
1) Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
2) Altered Beast
3) Daft Punk
Makes sense, right? RIGHT.

Quickies
I've been doing a few of these lately. Process is really straight-forward. I just do a quick line drawing to get perspective down, then grab a couple photos and distort them so the shapes are arranged in a manner that I can use the textures as "paint strokes." Use the clone tool and an assortment of crunchy, expressionistic brushes to lay in loads of texture and imply shapes. Finish it off with lots of selection tool + gradient or a big fuzzy round brush to imply light sources and such.

Spit ballin'
The Daily Spitpaint is a group on Facebook dedicated to creating 30 minute speed paintings which adhere to a preset theme. I've jumped on board and used the themes to experiment with style and push my boundaries.
It's always fun, and often with a side of brutal failure :P
"The witching hour"
"Dangerous beach"
"Undead giant"
"Viking marksman"
"Plasma cannon"

Goblin Huggle
After years of legitimate reasons, months of excuses and weeks of wrist-flailing, I've finally started learning ZBrush. I know enough little tricks to make it seem like I have half an idea of what I'm doing, so I threw together this little concept:
And started modeling him up, piece by piece, on my lunch breaks at the studio :P
This is actually part of a much larger project, which will be slowly revealed over the next few months. New project! :D

I did a few illustrations for a kickstarter recently. It's for a project by Scott Taylor, the editor of Black Gate Magazine. Brom and R.K. Post have signed off as contributors, so I'm definitely hoping he pulls it off. The illustrations were done at what can only be described as speed painting pace, but they came out fairly ok. Here they are, somewhat lo-res:

Neuromancer, WIP
Started work on my entry for the CGHub Illustrated challenge. Neuromancer has long been my favorite sci-fi novel, yet I've never really illustrated any scenes from it. So I decided to take a little walk through Chiba City ;]
Edit: I handed this image off to Cliffhanger Productions to use as promo and intended style for their Shadowrun reboot. Check it out!

Bone Mask Mauler - WIP
About an hour and a half into this one. More often than not, I find myself tip-toeing into illustrations, so I wanted to kick the door down for once. I'll certainly render into a few areas and polish in general, but cranking up the headphones and punching it in the face repeatedly at breakneck pace was pretty fun ;]

MtG: WiP
Just getting this one off the ground.

This illustration is for a mock card representing a standard thief/spy archetype. I tried to convey Merfolk painting themselves up to infiltrate Elves, but I don't think it will read in this particular iteration. I'll probably give it another go with more emphasis on the ideation and thumbnail stages.
